“Immersive Virtual Reality training for midwives — reducing maternal and infant mortality through experiential clinical education.”
VR Training for Midwives
Team Star built an immersive Virtual Reality training platform for midwives and obstetric nurses — targeting one of Bangladesh’s most critical healthcare gaps: preventable maternal and infant mortality caused by inadequately trained birth attendants.
Traditional training relies on mannequins, textbooks, and limited supervised clinical exposure. Team Star’s VR environment simulates realistic birth scenarios including high-risk emergencies — eclampsia, shoulder dystocia, postpartum hemorrhage — allowing trainees to practice life-saving interventions in a zero-risk environment.
The platform tracks performance metrics across simulated procedures, providing AI-generated feedback on decision timing, technique accuracy, and emergency protocol adherence. Trainers receive dashboards to identify competency gaps before certification.
Immersive Simulation
High-fidelity VR birth scenarios including obstetric emergencies.
Emergency Protocols
Trains for eclampsia, hemorrhage, and neonatal resuscitation scenarios.
Performance Analytics
AI tracks decision speed, technique, and protocol compliance.
Upazila-Ready
Designed for deployment in district and Upazila health complexes.
Problem Statement
Bangladesh records approximately 173 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births. A significant proportion occur during or immediately after delivery — preventable with adequately trained birth attendants. Midwifery training programmes are constrained by clinical exposure time and the absence of standardised simulation infrastructure.
